How the body regulates blood glucose

The human body wants blood glucose (blood sugar) keep in a very narrow range. Insulin and glucagon are the hormones which keeps blood glucose in a very narrow range. The insulin and glucagon are secreted from the pancreas, and thus are point to as pancreatic endocrine hormones. The pancreas act as the central player in this scheme.  It is the formation of insulin and glucagon by the pancreas which finally determines if a patient has hypoglycemia, diabetes.

The pancreas discharges one more hormone, glucagon, when the blood sugar levelsdrop. It will directly cause the cells in the liver to turn glycogen back into glucose which can then be releasing into the blood. The blood sugar levels will then increase.Insulin is secreted in the beta cells of the pancreas. Then as well as blood glucose falls, the amount of insulin secreted by the pancreatic islets will be decreases.
